Philosophy
of biology
is the philosophical speculation about the living world. It deals with
the definitions of fundamental concepts, such as “life,” “living
organism,” “evolution,” and “biological species.” It elaborates the
philosophical implications of biological theories (e.g., evolutionary
theory) and scientific developments (e.g., biological cloning), and
discusses the philosophical foundations of valid and reliable research
methodologies in thelife sciences (see also cat. 6.1) (C. Zins, 2011).

Rationale Three
fields. While in practice there is one integrated
field under the umbrella name “philosophy of
biology,” theoretically this field is composed of three fields:
philosophy of biology (philosophy of the living world), philosophy
of biology (philosophy of biology as an academic field), and philosophy
of human biolgy (C. Zins, 2011). | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
