Philosophy
of physics is the study of the philosophical aspects of the physical
universe and the philosophical foundations of modern
physics. It defines
key concepts (“matter,”
“energy,” “space,” “time,” “physical object,” and “physical laws”),
discusses fundamental issues underlying science (e.g., causality vs.
determinism), and establishes valid and reliable research methodologies. (C. Zins, 2011).

Rationale
Three fields. While in practice there is one integrated field under the umbrella name “philosophy of
physics,” theoretically this field is composed of three fields:
philosophy of physics (philosophy of the physical universe), philosophy
of physics (philosophy of physics as an academic field), and philosophy of chemistry (C. Zins, 2011).
