Physics. The
goal of physics is to discover and formulate the principles and laws
that govern the material universe and explain the diversified faces of
the physical phenomena. It studies the structure of matter and the
interactions between the basic elements of the observable universe,
from the smallest sub-atomic particles (protons, neutrons and
electrons, quarks, leptons and mesons), to the largest galaxies, and
the nature and origin of energy and the gravitational, electromagnetic,
and nuclear fields (C. Zins,
2011).

Rationale
Branches.
Physics is traditionally divided into classical physics and modern
physics. The two divisions overlap. Classical physics traditionally
includes the fields of mechanics, optics, electricity, magnetism,
acoustics, and thermodynamics. Modern physics includes fields related
to quantum theory, among them quantum mechanics, atomic physics,
nuclear physics, particle physics, and condensed matter
physics (C. Zins,
2011).
