Religious studies is the academic field of multidisciplinary, secular study of religious beliefs, practices, and institutions. It describes, compares, interprets, and explains religion, emphasizing systematic, historically based, and cross-cultural perspectives. Religious studies differs from theology. While theology is related to specific religions religious studies explores religion from outside any particular religious viewpoint (C. Zins, 2011)..
