The relations between humans and the earth
can best be described in terms of use, abuse and control.  Humans use the earth, abuse it, or try to control its devastating powers, and face their devastating effects  (C. Zins, 2011).

Rationale
Subfields. Agriculture’s main sub-fields are horticulture (study of plant cultivation), forestry (study of managing forests and tree plantations), animal husbandry (study of breeding and raising livestock), aquaculture (study of farming of freshwater organisms), and fishery (study of raising and harvesting fishes).

Modern agriculture is an interdisciplinary field. It embodies the use of natural resources (soil and water) for improving biologically
based products (e.g., meat, fruits, vegetables) by human involvement and technologies (e.g., genetic engineering, pesticides, agricultural machinery). Therefore, agriculture can be represented by three pillars: space and earth (pillar 4), nonhuman organisms (pillar 5), and technology (pillar 9)
(C. Zins, 2011).
