The relations between humans and the earth
can best be described in terms of use, abuse and control.  Humans use the earth, abuse it, or try to control its devastating powers, and face their devastating effects  (C. Zins, 2011).

Rationale
Environmental sciences integrate natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, geology, and geography), technology and engineering, and social sciences (resource management and conservation, demography, economics, education, politics andethics). Therefore, it can be places in pillars 4, 9, and 7 respectively.  (C. Zins, 2011).
